Before the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) Contracts Services Team begins negotiating any research agreement, several key areas are reviewed upfront. Understanding this process can help your department prepare submissions that move more efficiently through initial OSP review.
Key Points of Review
- Materials and/or data — Are research materials and/or data being transferred as part of the agreement’s scope of work?
- Background IP — What if any existing intellectual property is each party bringing to the project? Does the budget at a high level align with the proposed scope of work?
- Scope of work — Is the scope of work adequate and understandable when reviewed by a non-scientist or layperson? The scope of work should be a broad overview of the project, so that it is clear what the University is agreeing to do (see related Tip of the Week).
Having clear answers to these questions when you submit a request through MyRA or MyFunding will help the Contracts Services Team begin review without delays.
