Arts & Humanities Microgrants

OVERVIEW

Arts & Humanities Microgrants are $3,000, one-year awards that support high-quality, smaller-scaled research, and scholarly, creative and artistic endeavors. Microgrants are intended as a resource to support existing or work in progress or to test new concepts where a smaller grant with fast decision making could be transformative. These funds support a wide range of individual and team projects, including conferences, symposia/workshops.

Sustainability-Related Projects

For the Spring 2024 cycle, there are additional $2,000 supplements for projects that involve sustainability research. Through collaborative joint funding with the Mascaro Center for Sustainable Innovation, faculty can request an additional $2,000 ($5,000 in total project costs). Supplemented projects should demonstrate how they will support and/or expand university-wide interdisciplinary sustainability programs as they relate to education, research, or engagement.

For example, projects might explore how humanities research connects with environmental problems; decolonial conservation strategies; sustaining languages; cultural practices in climate change. If you have questions or would like to explore your ideas about sustainability-related arts & humanities projects, please contact Melissa Bilec at mbilec@pitt.edu or Gena Kovalcik at gmk9@pitt.edu.
