Addgene Orders

In April, we informed you that the University of Pittsburgh had signed a Master Reception Agreement with ADDGENE, INC, and for most orders of materials from Addgene, this will eliminate the submission of MTA paperwork to the Office of Sponsored Programs (OR). Most items obtained from Addgene are covered by the new master reception agreement, thus eliminating the need for OR to “click on” to approve most orders via the Addgene website.

The Addgene system will make a determination of whether a MTA is needed at the time an individual places an order on the web via Addgene’s site. OR receives an email when an order is placed for a University requestor. If pre-approved, the message states:  “This request falls within this category and has been pre-approved.” If you receive this message, then no MTA submission paperwork is required for the order. If you do not receive this message, a MTA is required.

Please note:

1 - This streamlined process under the Master Reception Agreement requires those placing orders on line to list the Institution name as “University of Pittsburgh”. Listing UPMC or MWRIF as the institution name is incorrect and will force the order outside of the streamlined master agreement process which will require full submission and standard processing of an incoming MTA to the Office of Sponsored Programs.

2- Most materials ordered from Addgene will require IBC Approval prior to use. Please follow-up with the Pitt IBC Office to ensure you have the approval to use the Addgene material.
