Contracts* for trainee (graduate students and postdocs) projects that are submitted to the Office of Sponsored Programs must be submitted in the name of the faculty mentor. When possible, the mentor should also be signing the contract along with the trainee since, as a trainee, he/she is not fully independent. It is important for the mentor to understand the obligations of the trainee in these circumstances and oversee that the terms of the agreement are being met. This requirement does not include funding opportunities specifically for trainees, for example: NIH F31s or F32s, American Heart Association Postdoctoral Fellowships, or NSF Graduate Research Fellowships.
