The Importance of Submitting Progress Reports and Final Reports on Time

By receiving and accepting an award for funding, investigators are committing to meet all of the associated requirements, including the submission of on-time progress reports and final reports.

Federal sponsors in particular are increasingly enforcing the submission of timely reports. Failure to submit progress reports or final reports on time may lead to audit findings, award processing delays, or the withholding of funds across the University.

When submitting reports, investigators should work with their departmental research administrators to ensure that the correct routing steps and notifications take place, including those to the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP), so that the sponsor receives the reports before the deadline. For example, the departmental research administrator should notify OSP via MyFunding’s Email Specialist activity when a report is ready to be submitted to the sponsor in systems like eRA Commons and has the appropriate accompanying information in MyFunding.
