Per National Institutes of Health (NIH) Notice NOT-OD-25-142, the NIH has re-enabled the No-Cost Extension (NCE) functionality within eRA Commons. Recipients can now resume initiating first no-cost extensions in eRA Commons for those awards under SNAP/Expanded Authority and with end dates not yet passed.
Requests that were previously submitted via the prior approval module will not be reviewed by NIH, and recipients will need to initiate the first no cost extension within the Status module by using the Extension action.
The Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) is currently reviewing outstanding first-time NCE requests and will follow up with Principal Investigators (PIs) and department research administrators as NCE requests need to be resubmitted to the NIH.
