In accordance with Pitt Policy RI 09 Sponsored Projects – Effort Reporting/Certification, Principal Investigators (PIs) of sponsored projects “must contribute some level of effort to that project to provide necessary supervision/administration, regardless of the availability of sponsor salary reimbursement.”
To ensure compliance with Pitt policy, PI effort should be clear in budget documents submitted to the Office of Sponsored Programs, whether it is charged to the sponsor or cost-shared by the department.
