Why do I need an ORCID iD, and how do I get one?

Beginning October 1, 2019, individuals supported by research training, fellowship, research education, and career development awards will be required to have ORCID iDs (Open Researcher and Contributor Identifiers).  This requirement will be incorporated into the appointment process with the xTrain system verifying appointee ORCID iDs.  It will also be enforced at the time of application for fellowship and career development awards received on or after January 25, 2020.

The Health Sciences Library System (HSLS) has guidance for investigators who need to create ORCID iDs and link them to their eRA Commons accounts. See the HSLS article for more details on how to comply with the new requirement.
