Before sharing data or materials with external parties, Pitt investigators should consider the following points:
- Confirm there are no restrictions or limitations on sharing previously collected samples or data. Language in the original informed consent or HIPAA authorization, or terms in the agreement that provided funding to collect the data or samples may limit further sharing.
- If you were not the Principal Investigator (PI) who originally collected the data/samples, make the original PI involved in that collection aware of the new use of materials/data to ensure any additional limitations or restrictions are identified.
Visit the OSP website to learn more about Material Transfer Agreements (MTAs) and Data Use Agreements (DUAs). Investigators can submit MTA and DUA requests to the Office of Sponsored Programs through MyRA.
