Upcoming NCURA workshops

The National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA) Region II is providing the below in-person workshops in August and September. All four workshops will be held on Pitt’s Oakland campus at:

Please review the below announcement for additional details and a link to register. Note there is a registration fee for each workshop, and NCURA membership is not required for these events.

 

Please note that the NCURA Region II Workshops entitled “Building Blocks for Research Administration” and “Building a Budget” at the University of Pittsburgh (previously scheduled for July 27th and 28th, respectively) have been rescheduled to the following dates:

Thursday, September 14, 2023: Building Blocks for Research Administration

This workshop will provide knowledge, strategies, and tools to effectively manage sponsored projects through the discussion the federal regulations upon which institutional compliance is based; the administrative concepts of proposal submission; costing issues; the concept of effort; post award management; project closeout; compliance; and audits.

Friday, September 15, 2023: Building a Budget

Workshop faculty will walk attendees through the various aspects of building their budget, how to apply the cost principles, and how to estimate financial needs for each year of a project when rates and costs vary over time.

Thursday, August 24, 2023: Contracts: Common Issues and Best Practices for All Sponsor Types

Attendees will learn common clauses that slow down contract negotiation and their relevance to their pending contract. Additionally, they will learn tools to utilize during all stages of contracting, from proposal submission to contract negotiation and award management for all sponsor types, including flowthrough contracts

Friday, August 25, 2023: Intellectual Property Management

Attendees will learn the various types of Intellectual Property and where they are encountered in research contracts, as well as strategies to ensure that their institution’s interests are protected in their agreements as much as possible.

All workshops are also open to Members and Non-Members alike with a cost of $200 for each offering, which includes continental breakfast, lunch, and workshop materials. However, those registering for two workshops will receive $50 off their total registration fees ($350 instead of $400).
