What is the difference between a Pre-Award Office and a Post-Award Office?

Under the Office of the Senior Vice Chancellor for Research, the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) is Pitt’s central pre-award office. OSP’s main responsibilities include:

  • Research development support
  • Proposal review and submission
  • Award negotiation and acceptance
  • Nonfinancial research agreement review and processing
  • Outgoing subaward issuing

 

Under the Office of the Senior Vice Chancellor and Chief Financial Officer, Sponsored Projects Accounting (SPA) is Pitt’s central post-award office. SPA’s main responsibilities include:

  • Accounting
  • Financial reporting
  • Invoicing
  • Accounts receivable management
  • Administration of sponsored project funds from account activation to account closing
