Who is required to have an NIH Commons Account?

The eRA Commons is an online interface where grant applicants, grantees and federal staff at National Institutes of Health (NIH) and grantor agencies can access and share administrative information related to research grants.

Who is required to have an NIH Commons Account?

  • Principal Investigators submitting a grant application to NIH
  • Trainees in NIH training grants
  • Post Docs paid from NIH grants
  • Individuals in graduate and undergraduate student project roles with measurable effort on an NIH Progress Report (NIH-OD-13-097)
  • Reviewers and those that serve on an NIH study section

The Office of Sponsored Programs can only create accounts for individuals that are affiliated with the University of Pittsburgh. It is advisable that graduate and undergraduate students request an account well in advance of the Progress Report due date.

The Commons account request form can be found here.
