Investigator

The meaning of the term "Investigator" can vary depending upon the scope of work being performed within a research project. The term includes individuals, including Principal Investigator, Project Director, and any other person, regardless of title or position, who direct or can materially influence, and/or who are responsible for or participate in the design, conduct, or reporting of research, including collaborators and consultants. The role that the individual plays in the research project should be considered rather than the title given to that individual. Please note that Investigators are required to complete the appropriate Conflict of Interest Faculty/Researcher filing at least annually (and during the year if they accrue new outside interests), as well as ISER/CITI modules relevant to the project.

Please see the Conflict of Interest Policy for further information. Further Information specific to the PHS regulations can be found at: http://grants.nih.gov/grants/policy/coi/.
