Internal Funding Opportunities
To support and encourage research endeavors at the University, the Office of the Senior Vice Chancellor for Research and various University of Pittsburgh departments offer a variety of internal research funding opportunities. Pitt Momentum Funds are administered by the Senior Vice Chancellor for Research through the Office of Sponsored Programs, in coordination with and supported by the Office of the Provost. A listing of other selected University programs is available via a listing of internal opportunities in Pivot (PittNet or login required).

Office of Research, Health Sciences provides the University of Pittsburgh's research community with up-to-date information about a wide range of funding opportunities for research across the full breadth of the health sciences and maintains a comprehensive searchable database of governmental and foundation funding opportunities.
Medical and Health Sciences Foundation
The Foundation Relations team at the Medical and Health Sciences Foundation (MHSF) is available to assist faculty in the health sciences who are seeking philanthropic funding opportunities from private foundations. MHSF offers many services including, but not limited to:
- Identifying targeted funding opportunities from charitable foundations
- Proposal editing, ensuring funders’ priorities are addressed and emphasized
- Stewarding funders and building relationships on behalf of Pitt and its faculty
- Managing the gift agreement process and securing institutional signatures
